How the pieces fit together.
Three reference designs that show where optics, cables and fiber sit in a typical build. We size every link to your platforms, distances and budget.
AI training cluster
Each GPU gets its own high speed port on a dedicated back end fabric, kept apart from storage and front end traffic so training jobs never wait on the network.
- GPU to leaf400G per GPU, InfiniBand NDR or 400GbE RoCE, usually OSFP optics on the NIC. DAC or AOC when the leaf sits in the same or next rack.
- Leaf to spine800G twin port OSFP (2 × 400G). 2 × SR4 over multimode for short runs, 2 × DR4 over single mode MPO-12 APC for longer ones.
- CablingMPO/MTP trunks and cassettes laid out per rail, plus a separate 1G or 10G out of band management network.
Cloud data center
Every top of rack leaf connects to every spine, so any server is the same number of hops from any other and capacity grows by adding spines.
- Server to leaf25G SFP28. Passive DAC inside the rack for a few metres, or 25G SR optics over OM4 multimode.
- Leaf to spine100G QSFP28. SR4 within a row up to 100 m on OM4, CWDM4 up to 2 km, LR4 up to 10 km across halls.
- Moving to 400GQSFP-DD or OSFP 400G DR4 up to 500 m on single mode, which breaks out to 4 × 100G DR to reuse existing 100G leaf ports.
Enterprise campus
A redundant core links each building's distribution layer over single mode fiber, with PoE access switches on every floor for phones, access points and cameras.
- Access to users1G or multi gigabit copper with PoE+ for Wi-Fi access points, IP phones and cameras.
- Access to distribution10G SFP+. 10G SR over OM3 or OM4 inside a building up to 300 to 400 m, 10G LR over single mode up to 10 km.
- Distribution to core25G to 100G over OS2 single mode between buildings, terminated in fiber enclosures with LC duplex patch cords.
These are typical reference designs, not descriptions of specific customer projects. Reaches are standard maximums; real designs depend on your fiber, connectors and link budget.
